I once overheard a conversation while I was giving a fly tying demo for the Roaring Fork Valley Fly Fishers that I "tie flies to catch fisherman". I had to retort, no sir, I tie flies to catch fish first and foremost and then I like to sell them so others can catch fish too. I will only sell or demonstrate flies that I have proven to be worthy of permanent residence in my fly box. If and only AFTER a fly pattern has reliably caught fish do I dare mention of its incarnation. Before then, a fly goes through my own testing. Frankly, most flies are retired and donated to charity if two seasons of testing prove to fall short of my high expectations.
Greetings fly tyer, will you please take a moment and check a few boxes below?
