Seasonal Favorites

Spring Caddis Jig - Grannom
3.15

Covers the gamut of green caddis hatches that linger all season long. Use these for the Mothers Day Caddis Hatches and the nightly caddis of summer. A guide staple in my box.

CW Softie
3.15

I just had to put this pattern back into my rotations from a previous season because the numbers it produced cannot be ignored. Great all season long for countless evening caddis blizzards from April through the end of the season.

Peeking Caddis - American Grannom 3 Pack
3.15

Before summer makes its transition into fall, hatches and other bugs dwindle in frequency and size. When this happens, you may be surprised to find stomachs full of cased caddis as the fish look at scavenging on what is available. Behavioral drift also occurs as the caddis seek to establish better feeding territory within the river channel. Either way, trout will respond favorably to a cased caddis imitation drifting amongst the rocks.

Olive Bi-Color Perdigon

Deschutes bound anglers should grab plenty of these. I match the exact size and color of many free living caddis species found in her waters. Anglers worldwide are also given the same advice.

Wittle White Wabbit
3.15

I have some days where I work hard for the few fish I turn while fishing with the usual fly patterns. When I am having one of those days, I always give the White Wabbit or my Bank Maggot pattern a proper soaking as a follow-up. Many of those days are rescued with some decent fishing again after the switch.

Best for spring & Runoff

Knuckle Dragger Golden Stone
3.20

Picked up by Fulling Mill as a signature pattern. You can still buy mine right here, tied by me.
This is one of my top three producing signature patterns.

From the time I detect the first Skwala to the late september Sabulosa stones I will be employing this pattern as my anchor fly when I am scouring the trenches. It pairs well with a bank maggot during run-off or with a small polish quill during other hatches. you get the idea. It get’s used a lot. These are also very durable, I have many intact that still reside in my box that I have left-over from last year that I am still using.

A Killer Runoff pattern

This fly fishes best following a typical western summer monsoon or anytime the water is high or slightly off color. Of course, it still works in clear low flows but I found it is my ace in the hole when the water has been disturbed.

OG Krush Deluxe
3.15

The OG Krush Deluxe is a fly is also growing in cult status around the Roaring Fork Valley of Colorado and beyond. This pattern is best during the spring and autumn when trout and other fish are spawning. I had remarkable success during the autumn 2017 and spring of 2018 with this pattern. Both pink and orange bead headed flies trigger an innate egg eating response in fish.

Czech Nymphs

Light Olive Czech Nymph
3.00

Another Czech nymph that I adapted to match the size shape and color of the Hydropsyche caddis that I have been sampling around the west. I find plenty of these in spring gastric samples to indicate that this is nymph of significant importance. My angling logs agree.

Green Papaya Cezch Nymph
3.00

My favorite color combination of Czech nymph. One of that I frequently run out of in my fly box as I am always giving them away.

I originally devised this color combination to cover the yellow/green stones of summer. I use this fly when the Yellow Sallies are hatching. Even when the Sallies are not hatching, this color attracts a lot of attention.

The Zika Collection

Newbury's Original Zika Jig
3.15

Hands down, this is the single most effective fly in my box. My logs are beginning to show exceptional numbers of fish that this fly has been producing this year. I have not had a day later when I cannot draw a fish to take. I try to use other patterns, but this one always gets put back on.

I use this fly almost all year as my upper dropper on a multi fly French leader rig. It seems the rivers that I fish never run out of small black and white segmented midges and other larva that trout are on the lookout for.

Perdigones & Polish Quills

Black & Tan Perdigon
3.15

When the “Platinum” level shops start calling me to fill their guides boxes with these jigs because a similar fly was “THE GO-TO” fly last year, you know it’s hot. I know it’s hot too. My logs are filled to the rim with this pattern. Get em while you can as supplies are limited.

Yellow Sally Perdigon
3.15

I had a truly great guiding season last summer and this fly is one that made all the difference in my arsenal. Yellow Sallies are active throughout most of the summer to warrant a full row of these in your Tacky box. This color combo also does a great job of imitating the melon color that the PMD's in Colorado exhibit. I will be adding this to my top ten summer patterns list in 2018.
