Z Midge Emerger

From freshwater to tailwaters, midges provide a reliable source of nutrition for trout. No angler should be without at least a box full of midges, especially in winter. I find it a lot of fun to target fish in the slower margins of rivers sipping on emergers in the surface film. With a dab of floatant on the wing pad and hackle, you can get this fly to look like it's caught right in the middle of become airborne.

Hook: Hanak H390BL Klinkhammer, 18-20.
Bead: Pearl white glass midge.
Thread: Veevus 14/0 gray.
Abdomen: Gray tying thread, wound flat.
Rib: 14/0 Veevus black thread and Hends pearl tinsel wound together.
Note: Treat with thin coat of UV resin such as Solar-Rez thin hard,
Thorax: Black UV ice dub picked out for straggly legs.
Wingpost/wingbuds: Hemingway's Frosty Dub white pulled over bead after hackle is wound. This is a long fiber product and pulling a bunch out straight together will make excellent wings and wing cases on nymphs.
Hackle: Whiting grizzly midge saddle wrapped around wingpost prior to dubbing thorax and pulling wingpost over.
