There seems to be a never ending stream of new fly patterns being developed for the commercial market. Just as many highly talented fly tiers are also emerging on the internet. It is almost impossible to keep up with the rapid pace of fly tying innovation. DO we really need all these new fangled fly patterns? It is my opinion that knowing how to tie a large variety of flies and spending the time it takes to learn the craft can connect you to the sport of fly fishing in ways that nothing else can. It short...it makes you a better angler.
