The following is a logbook of my private fishing days when I am not guiding trips. If a specific size is not denoted in the log, specimen was under 10" in length.

Yampa River

Windy as fuck today but I still managed to get some good fishing in. Used my french leader all day. Conditions required 6x tippet. While fishing a two fly rig, I snagged a fly on a rock. I changed positions to un-snag the fly when a large crimson flanked rainbow gator rolled at the end of the line breaking my 6x tippet.

Roaring Fork River

The water is very clear. Sunny and hot with extreme haze due to smoke from wildfires throughout the west. Visibility < 10 miles. Pre drought conditions are taking effect.

Roaring Fork River

Fishing was very slow. Logs from the previous three seasons also indicate this to be a slow time of year. Conditions clear, sunny and warm with afternoon thunderstorms in the distance. I observed large rusty spinners so I fished with the drowned spinner imitation with no success. When I switched to an olive Czech Nymph I picked up a couple of fish. Many large fish have been killed by now due to excessive angling pressure and warm water. I am hoping for a monsoon system to flush the waters a bit, stir things up and cool the water down.

Roaring Fork River

I was able to get out for a couple of hours in mid day. Water was very clear. I'm not used to see the river bed so clean this time of year. no algae issues this year unlike last year. We could use a good two day monsoon event to dirty things up a bit.

There was a plastic bead spill several miles upstream a few weeks ago. Fish hatcheries may use these beads as a bio-substrate for de-nitrifying bacteria. I am performing gastric lavage by request of the Roaring Fork Conservancy to see if the beads are being eaten. No beads found. Gastric samples indicated heavy feeding activity on cased grannom caddis.

Landed 3 of 6 total  for 1.75 hours fished.
